On Feel Better Farm, hay/forage is our biggest and most important expense. There is not an animal on the farm that doesn’t rely on forage for the foundation of their diet. From big round bales of grass hay, small squares of orchard grass, all the way to chopped alfalfa, everyone here needs forage of some sort.
We go through a bit more than 100 big round bales, about 200 square bales of grass hay, and about 100 bales of alfalfa every year, predominantly between October and April.
This is always our biggest expense and my biggest worry.
We’ve been given the opportunity to buy some nice 5×4 round bales at the much reduced price of $40 a bale. That’s $30 less than our usual cost, and there is no delivery fee either.
The farmer will deliver 36 bales at a time and I would love to get 2 loads of this hay if we can, but one load would help so much.
This is a really important opportunity for us and could see us set for round bales for nearly half the winter
If you are in a position to contribute one bale, half a bale, 2 bales, a couple of dollars, it all adds up.
Thanks so much for your continued support.
