This is Luna.
We’ve been asked to take her in and I have already said yes. She arrived last night.
Luna was found at an auction by a horse trader we’ve worked with before. The same person who bought Timber and Banjo at auction to get them somewhere safe. This man could have left here there to die, which, one way or another, is exactly what would have happened. But he didn’t. He knew her chances were slim, so he bought her to get her somewhere safe, and then he delivered her to our door.
Luna is an old lady. The gray on her face betrays her years, but despite her horrifying condition, she is as sweet as she can be.
Her body condition is certainly painful to look at, but she also had an old injury to her left knee, and it seems that she hasn’t had her right hoof trimmed in, well….who knows. I’ll post more detailed pictures of that later.
Orthopedic and podiatric issues aside, this girl has just been starved. She doesn’t lift her head from whatever form of feed is offered her. We’ll slowly build up her feed and when she’s strong enough we’ll need to get her teeth floated so she eat more efficiently. Then we’ll move on to doing what we can about her old bones.
Right now we’ve started her on pain meds for comfort, although she is quite happy and willing to move.
Blair will be out today to work on her feet so she can walk more comfortably.
I dont know how long this sweet girl has, but we’ll do our best to get her strong and give her the retirement she deserves.
